Tonatiuh‘s rehearsals are usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 8 PM, for the past 28 years Tonatiuh’s regular rehearsals have been held at Alisal High School. Because of Covid, Tonatiuh took a break in March 2020 and is scheduled to come back in March 2022. The group has been taught mostly by its founder: Ramon Silva Ruelas and the group’s co-director: Fabio Alverez Bravo. Sometimes the group is taught by guest instructors from Mexico, the USA or our own Tonatiuh dancers. Tonatitos practice at each of their schools and are thought mostly by current Tonatiuh dancers. The year usually culminates with a dance concert. In the past, Tonatiuh and Tonatitos were combined in the same show, but in the last few years we had to separate because of the large amount of groups. Tonatitos were even divided into 2 groups and have their performances in 2 different days. Tonatiuh has hosted other Folklorico groups to have a joint show and has gone to other groups’ home base to perform with them.
